Description
To mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is honored to host award-winning, Fort Smith–based photographer Carmen Taylor. A split second before United Flight 175 struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center, Taylor captured an image that traveled the world within the hour. It has since become an indelible part of the historical visual record of that day — included in the New York Times volume A Nation Challenged and recognized by the Pulitzer committee, the Pictures of the Year International competition, and the National Headliner Awards.
The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow invites you to sit with one photograph, uncover the story it tells, and reflect on how storytelling and art together inspire healing, build community, and preserve the vital importance of historical memory. What to Expect: Behind-the-Lens Perspective — Taylor’s presentation, From Ground Zero, brings participants directly into what she saw and experienced on that historic day.
Exclusive Materials — View selected materials, additional photographs, and poignant reflections from other photographers as the 25-year mark approaches. Honest Dialogue — The evening centers on storytelling and community conversation, creating a safe, reflective space to discuss history, memory, and the ways in which various art forms speak to us, and through us.
