About the Session: This presentation teaches merchants how to maintain a competitive advantage against “Big Box” stores, Amazon and “Lifestyle Centers” by providing cost effective tips to survive in the ever-changing retail environment.
Some of the principles covered include:
• What draws people to shop downtown instead of “Big Boxes” and Amazon?
• Utilizing your storefront as a “Billboard.”
• Using your uniqueness to your advantage.
• Factors that help small stores survive.
• Thinking outside the traditional retail “box
Come hear Mark Miller, Main Street Arkansas Small Business Consultant: Mark Miller has been with Main Street Arkansas since January 1996. Prior to joining Main Street Arkansas, Mark worked five years for the Army Air Force Exchange Service and seven years for Wal-Mart. These are the nation’s largest government and civilian retailers respectively. Mark started his retail career in 1981 when he was a junior in high school at a Rexall Drug Store in a small Southern Illinois town on Main Street. He’s glad to have come full circle and be working once again on Main Street. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in retailing/marketing from Fontbonne College in St. Louis Missouri. Mark also holds a dual Masters degree in human resource development/training and public administration from Webster University. Mark is also a certified Business Retention & Expansion Consultant through Business Retention & Expansion International and the University of Minnesota.
