Ginny wrote to us about what inspired her: "Three years ago\, my friend Bill underwent gender-affirmation surgery at age seventy to become Kathryn\, a journey that was covered in The Washington Post. I wrote to her to express my support\, and she was generous enough to share her gender identity experience with me. From this first letter grew not only friendship and admiration but also this story of a girl named Finch and her beloved dog\, Ben."
